SPD investigating early morning stabbings on Marshall Street, South Crouse Avenue

The Syracuse Police Department responded to two separate stabbing incidents on Marshall Street and South Crouse Avenue early Sunday morning. None of the people involved in the stabbings are affiliated with Syracuse University.

The Syracuse Police Department is investigating two early Sunday morning stabbing incidents that occurred on Marshall Street and South Crouse Avenue, according to SPD press releases.
A 19-year-old Syracuse woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly wielding a knife in a crowd of people on Marshall Street at approximately 1:55 a.m. During the altercation, the woman allegedly stabbed one person in the hands and back.
At around 1:56 a.m., police also responded to reports of a 22-year-old man at South Crouse Avenue who reportedly sustained a stab wound to his buttock area in an altercation with multiple other men.
None of the people involved in the incidents are affiliated with Syracuse University, according to SPD. The department is treating each case as a separate incident, but also exploring possible links between the two due to the similarities in timing, physical proximity and nature.
Xianai Williams was arrested in connection with the Marshall Street stabbing incident. Police reportedly witnessed her “swinging a knife around” in a large crowd and subsequently ordered her to drop the weapon, according to SPD. She allegedly refused to comply and attempted to flee on foot.
Williams now faces second degree assault and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon charges, SPD stated. She is currently being held at the Onondaga County Justice Center.
The victim, a 19-year-old woman, was treated for stab wounds at Upstate University Hospital. Her injuries are not life threatening, according to SPD.
As of 2:38 p.m. Sunday, police have not identified any arrests made in association with the South Crouse Avenue stabbing incident. The 22-year-old male victim was also treated for non-life threatening stab wounds at Upstate, according to SPD.
