Syracuse field hockey (10-3, 4-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) rose to No. 12 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Week 6 Poll, which was released Tuesday. The Orange earned two conference wins over the weekend, shutting out Stanford 3-0 Friday and then defeating No. 18 California 2-1 Sunday.

The victories marked SU’s third and fourth straight wins. In the Week 6 Poll, the Orange gained 34 points, rising from No. 14 to No. 12. Syracuse’s 419 points are its highest in the poll this season.

On Friday against Stanford, the Orange controlled the entire game. Through 15 minutes, the score was deadlocked at 0-0, but SU took the lead just three minutes into the second quarter. Syracuse would go on to score once more in the second, heading into halftime with a comfortable 2-0 lead. With nine minutes left in the game, Willemijn Boogert scored her second goal of the match, sealing Syracuse’s 3-0 victory.

Against California Sunday, Syracuse fell behind early. A goal by Cal’s Olivia Sharratt 12 minutes into the first quarter gave the Golden Bears a 1-0 lead. However, Syracuse responded with a Bo van Kempen penalty corner goal four minutes before halftime. After a stagnant second half by both teams’ offenses, the match went into overtime. Syracuse won on a sudden victory goal by van Kempen two minutes in, her team-leading 11th goal of the season.
