Gates is a cornerback/free safety at Damien High School (California). He attended the Orange’s 33-25 win over Cal while visiting the Golden Bears. Additionally, he was at the JMA Wireless Dome for SU’s 31-24 win over UConn on Saturday.
The defensive back is 6-foot-1 and his X bio states he runs a 4.50-second 40-yard dash. Gates is listed as a three-star prospect by Rivals.
First-year head coach Fran Brown is known for his northeast recruiting. With Gates’ commitment, it signals Brown and Co. are trying to expand their recruiting prowess across the country.
