Syracuse forward Rakeem Christmas has been named one of 15 finalists for the John R. Wooden Award given to college basketball’s top player.
Christmas is averaging 17.6 points per game and nine rebounds per contest in his senior campaign, totals significantly better than in any of his first three seasons. Christmas was left off both the Wooden Top 25 Watch List in January and the Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 in February.
Christmas will play his last college game against North Carolina State on Saturday, as Syracuse is ineligible for the postseason after self-imposing a one-year ban on Feb. 4.
The SU senior is joined by 14 others on the list, including Duke’s Jahlil Okafor, Virginia’s Malcolm Brogdon, Notre Dame’s Jerian Grant and Wisconsin’s Frank Kaminsky.
