The offseason honors continue to pile up for Rakeem Christmas.
The center — who played his last collegiate game in a loss to North Carolina State on Saturday — was named a third-team All-American by Sporting News on Tuesday. The announcement comes two days after he was named to the first-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference, to the ACC All-Defensive team and the ACC’s Most Improved Player.
For good measure, Christmas also received one vote for ACC Player of the Year, which was won by Duke freshman Jahlil Okafor.
Christmas finished the season averaging 17.5 and 9.1 rebounds per game while shooting 55.2 percent from the field. His previous career-high for average points per game was 5.8, which he averaged a junior last season.
With Syracuse’s season finished due to a self-imposed postseason ban, Christmas said on Saturday that he is returning home to Philadelphia to evaluate his future with his family. He also said he expects to start working out for the NBA Draft in the coming weeks.
