Syracuse competes in trio of invitationals over weekend

Syracuse opened up its outdoor track and field season this weekend with several meets.

Sprinters and jumpers competed in the Auburn Tiger Invitational, while distance runners attended the Princeton Sam Howell Invitational. Others also participated in the Stanford Invite.

Martin Hehir placed second in the 10k, running a 28:27.70 to lead Syracuse at Stanford.

He was followed by Dan Lennon (28:46.21) who placed 17th, and Reed Kamyszek, whose time of 28:49.53 was good enough for 19th.

Margo Malone led the women at Stanford, placing eighth in the 10k with a time of 32:29.89, and Maura Linde (34:12.00) followed in at 14th.



At the Auburn Tiger Invitational, Syracuse offered up an impressive showing, placing three in the Top 10 in the men’s 110-meter hurdles. Freddie Crittenden led SU, finishing second with a time of 13.85 seconds. Donald Pollitt (14.23) took sixth and David Gilstrap (14.69) finished 10th. Pollitt also finished 16th in the 200-meters, running it in 21.69 seconds.

On the women’s side. Sofia Mossberg made her freshman debut in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in fifth with a time of 13.81. Danielle Delgado ran a 14.26 and SaDe Lewis ran a 14.31, which were good for 19th and 23rd place respectively.

For jumpers, Regine Hunter led the women in the triple jump. She took eighth with a distance of 12.28 meters. For the men, Pascal Bastien took 15th with 13.74 meters.

Bastien also took 14th place in the long jump (6.70 meters), while Jabari Butler grabbed seventh place in the high jump.

Finally, at Princeton, Syracuse was led by Paul Lovell. His time of 1:54.43 in the 800-meter run earned sixth place, while Billy Cvecko (1:57.10) finished 18th in the event.

In the 1500-meter run, Molly Malone ran a 4:31.52 to grab eighth place. In the 5000-meter run, Kevyn Hoyos (14.48.38) placed 14th while the women placed Shaylyn Tuite (17:30.68), Rebecca Skodis (17:34.76) and Angelica Peck (17:51.10) in the top 13. Tuite took ninth with Skodis placing 10th and Peck 13th.

Syracuse will travel to Florida for the Miami Hurricane Alumni Invitational on Saturday, April 11.
