Syracuse basketball recruiting: 4-star point guard Alterique Gilbert lists Orange in his top 5 schools

Four-star point guard Alterique Gilbert has trimmed the list of schools he is considering to five and Syracuse made the cut, he told Scout.com on Wednesday.

Scout ranked Gilbert the No. 47 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 and the No. 8 point guard. SU offered Gilbert two weeks ago.

The Miller Grove (Georgia) High School product named Connecticut, Illinois, Louisville and Texas as the four other schools on his list. Gilbert has only visited UConn and told Scout the only other schools he will definitely visit are SU and Louisville.

“I’ve been a Syracuse fan since I was younger,” Gilbert told Scout of what he liked about the Orange. “I watched a lot of their players go through their program. I like their guard play. Recent guards like Johnny Flynn.”

Gilbert also told Scout that he’s unsure of when he will make his final decision.

Power forward Matthew Moyer, ranked No. 61 overall by Scout, is SU’s only commit for the Class of 2016.
