SU works to provide international students with new SEVIS documents

The Slutzker Center for International Services is setting up a satellite office this week to give international students the opportunity to pick up a new SEVIS Form I-20.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is requiring new Student and Exchange Visitor Information System documents for all students with F-1 student visas, said Patricia Burak, the director of the Slutzker Center for International Services, in an email. The newly designed form must be presented for all legal transactions, such as entry into the U.S., Burak said.

The Slutzker Center is setting up a satellite office in Room 550 of Bird Library on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to give international students their new SEVIS Form I-20.

Burak said a new government regulation motivated the change in the form and added that the change affects more than 4,000 students at SU and about 800 students who have graduated, but are still in the U.S. working under the terms of “practical training.”

In order to receive the revised Form I-20, students are required to present their SU ID, a printed copy of their current address and proof of health insurance, Burak said.
