Syracuse faces setback in 3-0 loss to No. 17 Florida State
The Syracuse front line bobbled the last volley of the match, letting it bounce across two players before falling onto the court.
No. 17 Florida State (16-4, 9-0 Atlantic Coast), the top team in the ACC, beat the Orange (16-5, 6-3 ACC), 3-0, in Tallahassee on Friday night. FSU added to its now 40-game home ACC winning streak at Tully Gym.
The front line couldn’t put anything together, coming out of the three-set match with a .168 hitting percentage and only 34 combined kills.
The Orange were led by senior Nico Serratore with nine kills, followed by sophomore Leah Levert with seven.
SU senior setter Gosia Wlasczcuk tallied 28 assists and 10 digs.
Senior Nicole Walch led the Seminoles with 14 kills against the Orange, adding a .400 hitting percentage. Walch has been named the ACC Player of the Week the past three weeks, and after Friday’s game is now eighth all-time in kills for the Seminoles.
The Orange will stay in Florida over the weekend for its game on Sunday, Oct. 25 against the University of Miami.
