Syracuse falls to Miami in 3 sets

After dropping a three-set match on Friday night against No. 17 Florida State, Syracuse (15-6, 6-4 Atlantic Coast) was swept by Miami (14-6, 7-3) on Sunday, three sets to none.

The Hurricanes were led by senior outside hitter Taylor Scott, who had 19 kills and a .600 hitting percentage. Scott’s 19 kills were one shy of her season high of 20, set Sept. 23 against FSU.

Syracuse came close to taking the second set, eventually dropping it 26-24, and lost both the first and third sets, 25-17.

The Orange was out-blocked 4-3, continuing yet another dry spell for the SU blockers. SU has now had two straight games well below its usual blocking numbers.

Freshman Santita Ebangwese tallied two blocks for SU, and senior Monika Salkute and sophomore Leah Levert each added one.

After a streak of 30-plus-assist games, senior Gosia Wlaszczuk had her second straight game with under 30 assists, contributing just 25 in the loss.

The Orange returns home to the Women’s Building Friday, Oct. 30 to take on Georgia Tech at 7 p.m.
