Syracuse squanders 6 power-play opportunities in 2-0 loss at RMU
Syracuse (4-5, 2-1 College Hockey America) dropped the second part of a back-to-back series against Robert Morris (5-4-1, 1-1), losing 2-0 on Saturday in Moon Township, Pennsylvania.
The game was scoreless through the first two periods. But 13 minutes into the third, Colonials forward Brittany Howard scored a goal to give RMU a 1-0 lead.
Robert Morris added to the lead with an empty-net goal with one second left to make the score 2-0.
SU had six power plays in the game — with five of them coming before the start of the third period — but was unable to score. Syracuse only got six shots off during the six power-play opportunities.
The Orange was led by in shot attempts by Jessica Sibley, who had five. Nicole Ferrara and Stephanie Grossi were tied for second with three shots apiece.
This was the first conference loss of the season for SU.
Syracuse resumes play next weekend, when it plays a back-to-back series with CHA rival Lindenwood in Missouri.
