SA Briefs: 3 takeaways from Monday’s meeting (Jan. 25)
The Syracuse University Student Association held its first meeting of the semester Monday night in Maxwell Auditorium. Here are three takeaways:
1. Elections
SA elected Domenica Vera as speaker of the assembly, Matthew VanDemark as parliamentarian and Nicole Sherwood as external public relations chair for the spring 2016 semester.
2. The fight for Uber continues
SA is continuing its effort to bring Uber, the ride-hailing service, to upstate New York. Over break SA received support from the State University of New York Student Assembly, the official student governing body for all SUNY schools, and SA President Aysha Seedat was asked to lobby in Albany on behalf of Uber.
3. Plans for the upcoming semester
SA has allocated nearly $70,000 for special programs this year. SA will also soon begin making plans for Cuse Conference, the Mental Health Awareness Campaign and Impact Week.
