Chancellor Kent Syverud has appointed 16 Syracuse community members to serve on a search committee to identify the best candidate to be the next dean of Hendricks Chapel.

The search committee will also be responsible for reviewing Hendricks Chapel’s existing programs, facilities and finances in addition to “current and emerging challenges and opportunities for enhancing its role and impact on university life,” according to an SU News release.

The committee members will work to develop a clear vision and goals for Hendricks Chapel and its leadership team going forward, according to the release.

Samuel Clemence, interim dean of Hendricks Chapel, and Candace Campbell Jackson, vice president and chief of staff, will be the co-chairs of the Hendricks Chapel and Dean’s Search Committee, according to the release. The search committee will include Syracuse University faculty, staff, students and Board of Trustee members as well as members of the larger Syracuse community.

• Carol Boll, a writer for the Division of Public Affairs
• Syeisha Byrd, director of the Office of Engagement Programs
• Maggie Byrne, Catholic campus ministry
• Pedro Castro Jr., chaplain for the Historically Black Church campus ministry
• Andrew Clark, senior associate vice president for Operational Excellence
• Rabbi Leah Fein, Hillel Center and Jewish chaplaincy
• Daniel Feng, community representative
• Mara Julin, an undergraduate student representative from SU
• Peter Leduc, an undergraduate representative from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry
• Nikkole Mojica, a graduate student representative from SU
• Joan Nicholson, University Board of Trustees
• Judy O’Rourke, community representative and retired co-director of the Center for Fellowship and Scholarship Advising
• Bonnie Shoultz, chaplain for the Buddhist campus ministry
• Martha Sutter, director and assistant professor in the Setnor School of Music
• Fareya Zubair, undergraduate representative from SU

The review is set to be complete by late spring and the dean search will be launched in the fall, according to the release. Clemence will continue serving as interim dean of Hendricks Chapel until a successor is chosen.
