Syracuse has been selected as a No. 4 seed in the NCAA tournament and will face No. 13 seed Army on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Carrier Dome.

By being selected as a top four seed, the Orange will get to host the first weekend of the tournament for the first time in school history. The winner of SU’s matchup with Army (29-2, 17-1 Patriot) will face the winner of No. 5 seed Florida and No. 12 seed Albany on Sunday, also in the Carrier Dome.

This year marks SU’s eighth NCAA tournament appearance and fifth under 10-year head coach Quentin Hillsman. Syracuse won its first NCAA tournament game in 2014 and has been knocked out in the Round of 32 in each of the past two seasons.

ESPN.com, RealTimeRPI.com and CollegeSportsMadness.com all projected Syracuse as a No. 4 seed prior to the official seeding announcement.

After the Orange (25-7, 13-3 Atlantic Coast) won 11 straight games, Syracuse fell to Notre Dame, the No. 2-ranked team in the country, by 11 points. SU came in at No. 14 in the final AP Poll of the season released on Monday, tied for its highest rank in program history.

SU won four games against ranked opponents and went 14-2 at home this season. Following Syracuse’s loss in the ACC title game, Hillsman said he thinks his team is worthy of a top four seed and point guard Alexis Peterson echoed his sentiment.

“We know we can play with these types of teams,” Peterson said on March 6. “We’ve proven it. We beat your Louisvilles, we beat your Florida States, we beat your Dukes. Gave Notre Dame a run for their money. We’re right there.”
