Former Syracuse point guard Kaleb Joseph will transfer to Creighton, his AAU coach told The Daily Orange on Monday.

Joseph just finished his sophomore season, in which he largely sat on the bench after starting as a freshman. In that first season, Joseph played 27.3 minutes per contest while averaging 5.9 points and 3.8 assists per game. This past year — with fifth-year senior Michael Gbinije starting at point and freshman Frank Howard being the first and only guard off the bench — Joseph played six minutes and averaged 0.8 points per game.

Preston Murphy, an assistant coach at Creighton, was a “big factor” in the decision for Joseph to go to Creighton, Vin Pastore, Joseph’s AAU coach, said.

He came to the Orange as ESPN’s 50th-ranked recruit in the Class of 2014, and was the heir to Tyler Ennis’ point guard spot after Ennis left for the NBA after one season. Now he’s the third player to transfer from SU since it lost to North Carolina in the Final Four on April 4, joining center Chinonso Obokoh and walk-on Christian White.
