Syracuse Director of Athletics Mark Coyle is leaving his job at SU after less than a year to take a job at the University of Minnesota, SU confirmed Wednesday morning. He will take Minnesota’s AD position.
“Mark Coyle has informed the University, that for family reasons, he is leaving the University for a position at Minnesota. We wish him well,” Syracuse senior vice president for public affairs Kevin Quinn said in a statement.

Syracuse has not yet announced an interim AD, Quinn said. Coyle was announced as Syracuse’s AD on June 19, 2015, replacing Daryl Gross after Gross held the position for over a decade.
Minnesota announced Wednesday that Coyle was a finalist for its athletic director position and he is on campus to meet with staff and faculty in the athletics department. Coyle worked at U of M from 2001-05, where he served as the department’s associate athletic director for external relations.
Minnesota’s AD position is currently held on an interim basis by Beth Goetz. Prior to Goetz receiving the AD job, Norwood Teague resigned from the position after revelations of sexual harassment of two female university employees surfaced.
