Matt Ehalt
Asst. Sports Editor, Asst. Sports Copy EditorFall 2008-Spring 2009
I guess it’s that time for EZE to write his duck, and how I survived this semester, it must’ve taken a lot of luck. The Giambino is still my idol, and thanks to everyone who made me smile. I hope I made work enjoyable for everyone with my laughs and jokes, and I wish that I could have stayed to have some more pup food and Cokes. I wouldn’t change anything at the end of the day, and for my time at 744 Ostrom, here’s what I have to say:
Ethan – Your opinion on a story always means something special to me. Thanks for giving me a chance.
ZB – I called you thousands of times, but look at where it led me.
The Gelb -You pushed me as a young writer and I tried to meet the challenge. You always had great nuggets for my stories. Best of luck.
Clayton -You are the most influential person in my collegiate writing time. You taught me how to improve journalistically, but you were just a great person that I could talk to about anything. Thanks for having faith in me and giving me my first newspaper job. I hope I didn’t let you down and that we cross paths in the future.
Kyle – You threw me the rebound during Media Cup this year, and for that I will always be grateful. You ran a good section and we had some good life conversations. Thanks for always being so calm and putting up with me at times. Best of luck in the future.
Bonner – You know we shared a beat together? My man. Thanks for being my best friend and just always being there for me when I needed something. You were the one person I could always count on and you basically were my older brother. I’m going to miss ya man.
Schonnie – You almost made me quit, but you’re a great person and an extremely talented writer. Yes, you stink at basketball, but that’s not your profession. Writing should be, and I hope it is. You will be the godfather of D’Brickshaw Ehalt.
Tyler – What’s your name? G-REG! What you do? Get…..(Radio Edit). Here we come Penn State! Covering football and basketball together next year is going to be awesome, man. You know us conservatives got to stick together. Thanks for always being able to make me laugh. Here’s to hitting the bars next semester (finally!).
Andy – Some days, I want to kill you. The other days, we have great conversations. I’ll always remember the little pointers you taught me about leads. I think you are going to do great things. Let’s continue our pro-wrestling talks in the future.
Doc – I enjoyed our time this semester. The one thing I think most people never gave you credit for was staying so calm during late nights. I never saw you get unsettled or ruffled. That doesn’t go unnoticed. Rangers will win tonight.
Erinn – I think half of our conversations began with ‘Did you see this week’s ‘Office?” You’re a cool cat (not as cool as Grandpa Fluffers though) and did a great job in the office. Let’s hang out more next semester.
Conor – Crazy times this year covering games and the weekend ventures. You’re a good friend and writer. Don’t be afraid to take charge in the office next year as you prep for SE. Until then, here’s to the weekend!
Steph – Beautiful. You are going to do good things as EIC. I look forward to hanging out next semester. It was a pleasure to work under you (that’s what…..).
Kells -Young EZE and his girl Kells….. You’re one cool kid and best of luck running Feature. One request: We have to learn the poison dance sometime soon.
Wei – You’re awesome.
JD – Thanks for the rides and best of luck as SE. I know you’ll run a tight ship.
Meredith – Best of luck as ME. Don’t be afraid to lay down the law. We had fun covering lacrosse and you make some good pasta. Thanks for keeping my ego in check.
Brittney/Jaimie/Dina – Thanks for catching my errors and putting up with my that’s what she said jokes.
Grandpa Fluffers – Keep trucking along, big buddy. And you are the only cat to ever make the masthead of The Daily Orange.
Mom – Kanye says it best. ‘Hey Mama. I want to scream so loud for you, because I’m so proud of you, and let me tell you about what I’m about to do. Hey mama, you know I love so, and I never let you go. I wrote this song just so that you know no matter where you go, my love is true.’ Thanks for worrying about me on all those late nights. You’re the best. Love ya, Mom.
Dad – I wouldn’t be here without you, Pops. You stirred my interest in sportswriting and you are still the person whose advice I hold the truest when it comes to journalism. Your passion for sports journalism is something I can only hope to match in my career. I look forward to learning from you while interning this summer, and even more, going to our first game at the new Yankee Stadium. Love ya, Dad.
