5 things to know about ZHU before he plays the Carrier Dome for Block Party

Get to know EDM artist ZHU before he performs at University Union’s Block Party on April 28.
1. He’s a California guy
A student at the University of Southern California and member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, Steve Zhu graduated from its Thorden School of Music in 2011 and debuted his music on SoundCloud. He began to garner attention through an OutKast remix in 2014.
2. He went from SoundCloud to the Grammys
He began his musical career in relative anonymity, choosing to let the music speak for itself. But success on SoundCloud of his hit “Faded,” led to a Grammy nomination for best dance recording in 2015 and a record deal with Columbia Records.
3. He’s worked with another Block Party artist
Under the name ZHU, he released his “Genesis Series,” EP with collaborations with Skrillex, A-Trak, and fellow Block Party opener AlunaGeorge.
4. His album is all about rebirth
His debut album, “Generationwhy” was released in 2016. ZHU began working on producing the album after spending two weeks in New Orleans, allowing friends to come by and make music with him. His concept for the album was centered around one thing – rebirth.
5. He’ll get you to dance
While ZHU still shies away from the public eye, his shows are categorized through smooth mixing of poppy melodic EDM and can please anyone looking to dance.
