Former Syracuse football player Chauncey Scissum will transfer to UNLV for his fifth year of eligibility, he announced Monday night via Instagram.
The former SU safety was granted his release to transfer in December.
“The decision was not an easy one,” he said in the post. “I had to make a tough decision for the betterment of self. I am extremely thankful for my family and their continued motivation and support.”
As a redshirt junior in 2016, Scissum played in only six games, recording one assisted tackle in a victory against Connecticut. It was a drop off from 2015, when he played in all 12 games, starting seven.
In April 2016, Scissum and former SU defensive back Corey Winfield were stabbed on South Campus by then-teammate Naesean Howard. Howard was sentenced in February to 10 years in prison.
