SA to petition for increased Goldstein Dining Center hours
Hungry South Campus students could be getting extra relief in their late-night search for food.
Student Association Vice President Travis Mason announced Tuesday night that he and another student, junior Jadeeva Smith, will be starting a petition asking that the dining center at Goldstein Student Center remain open until midnight, an hour later than it is now. The petition will be available online at www.gopetition.com and in hard copy, and is designed to gauge students’ interest in the change.
‘Our plan is basically to get a consensus with South Campus students on whether or not they think this is an issue before moving on,’ Mason said.
Mason said he has heard concerns from South Campus residents about Goldstein’s hours and their inability to accomplish the many tasks students living on North Campus take for granted.
Because South Campus does not boast a dining hall or in-house laundry facilities, the student center is the only option for South Campus students to eat and wash their clothes.
South Campus residents now have the option of using the Campus Delivery service to order food as late as 1 a.m., Mason said, but its menu does not offer the same variety of food that the Goldstein does.
Mason said he also plans to investigate the rise in laundry prices throughout campus and the possibility of having a petition to address this issue as well.
The SA has begun work on an unofficial guide to Syracuse University for new and incoming students, which will be distributed as soon as it is finished, said junior SA member Priya DeSouza.
‘The guide will contain phone numbers of local restaurants, businesses, and will even have a map of all the fraternities,’ DeSouza said.
SA President Andrew Lederman attended a meeting with the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry Student Association after being invited by its president.
‘I would like to help ESF gain more publicity among SU students as well as work with their student government on events such as community service projects,’ Lederman said.
Darius Pakrooh, a sophomore finance and accounting major, was elected unanimously to the finance board, filling one of three available spots.
