Tyus Battle averaged 19.2 points in 2017-18.

No. 16 Syracuse was picked to finish fourth in the ACC preseason poll, voted on by media on Wednesday and released Thursday. The Orange were chosen to finish behind No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Virginia and No. 8 North Carolina.

Tyus Battle was named one of five members of the preseason All-ACC first team. He was joined on the preseason first team by UNC’s Luke Maye, Duke’s RJ Barrett, UVA’s Kyle Guy and Boston College’s Ky Bowman. Battle also received 11 votes for ACC Preseason Player of the Year. That trailed Maye, who received the most votes, along with Barrett and his fellow Duke freshman, Zion Williamson.

SU freshman guard Jalen Carey received one vote for ACC Preseason Freshman of the Year. That voting was dominated by Barrett and Williamson, who combined for 109 of the 121 votes for that award.

The Orange opens up its exhibition slate on Thursday night against the College of St. Rose. The regular season kicks off on Nov. 6, and SU’s first ACC game comes Jan. 5 in South Bend, Indiana, against Notre Dame.
