Syracuse legend Ryan Powell has joined the SU men’s lacrosse staff in an analyst role, SU Athletics announced in a press release Wednesday afternoon.
With Syracuse, Powell will not be permitted to recruit off-premises or have an on-field coaching role with Syracuse’s team, but will instead be responsible for “overseeing the Syracuse’s camps and clinics and providing input on personnel and schemes to the team’s coaching staff,” according to the release.
Powell was the second of three brothers to play at Syracuse, all ranking within the program’s top-10 in career points. He scored 287 career points for the Orange, which tied his older brother Casey for the highest total in Syracuse history before the mark was eclipsed by the two’s younger brother, Mike, with 307 career points.
Powell led the Orange to the 2000 national title and, after 10 years in Major League Lacrosse, became the 28th former Syracuse player to be inducted into the U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
The Orange open their season Friday, Feb. 8 against Colgate in the Carrier Dome.
