Against Louisville, senior Alexa Romero pitched a total of 14 innings over the course of three days. Friday, SU head coach Shannon Doepking elected to send her back to the mound. Still, Romero was confident the increased workload wouldn’t affect her performance going forward.

“Being relied on just comes with it sometime,” Romero said. “I’m just happy I’m back and playing like I know how to play.”

Early on, Romero struggled, allowing three runs in the second inning. But over the course of the next four innings, Romero settled down and allowed no runs with only two hits.

Come the final inning with the score tied 3-3, Doepking kept the senior in the game, even though she had thrown 122 pitches.

That proved to be a mistake. Romero walked the opening batter and then allowed a single to the next one, putting the winning runner at second base. Two batters later, Boston College (10-15, 1-3 Atlantic Coast) sophomore Emme Martinez singled in the walk-off run off Romero, handing Syracuse (9-17, 1-3) a 4-3 defeat. The Orange have now lost three of their four games in ACC play.

The Orange took a 1-0 lead in the second inning after sophomore Lailoni Mayfield singled home junior Toni Martin. Two batters later, senior Alicia Hansen knocked a single past the BC second baseman, bringing home Mayfield and sophomore Miranda Hearn.

But in the following five innings, the Orange only registered one hit. SU ended the game with five hits in 26 at bats.
