Car accident at University Place and Ostrom Avenue leave drivers unharmed

Two vehicles collided at the corner of University Place and Ostrom Avenue on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:20 p.m. No one was injured.

Kaitlyn Carrier, a Syracuse resident, was driving her purple 2004 Chevrolet Impala south on Ostrum Avenue when the driver of a gray SUV failed to stop at the stop sign on the corner of University Place, she said.

Christos Koutsourades, a sophomore psychology major, witnessed the accident from the Ostrom entrance of Thornden Park. He confirmed the cause of the accident was the SUV’s failure to yield to the stop sign.

One police officer arrived at the scene at 2:32 p.m. Maya Kosoff, sophomore magazine journalism major, was also at the park and called 9-1-1 as soon as she ‘heard the sounds of tires and metal hitting metal,’ she said. Kosoff said she saw the SUV continue driving away after the crash, but then watched it turn into the Ostrom parking lot.

The Impala’s front bumper was badly damaged. The car was not considered in drivable condition and was collected by a Henson’s Collision tow truck at 3:03 p.m.

The SUV had little damage on the left side of the front bumper.
