Male freshman found dead in DellPlain Residence Hall
A Syracuse University male freshman was found dead in his room on the fourth floor of DellPlain Residence Hall early Wednesday morning, university officials said.
An emergency call was made to Public Safety shortly before 8 a.m. Wednesday, said SU spokesman Kevin Morrow. Public Safety and Syracuse Police both responded to the dorm.
The final cause of death is currently under review by the medical examiner, but it is currently being treated as an apparent suicide, said Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police Department.
Chancellor Nancy Cantor was at Dellplain by around 8:30 a.m., said Kevin Quinn, vice president for public affairs.
Early Wednesday afternoon, Cantor sent out an e-mail alerting the campus community to the death of ‘a promising member of the first-year class.’
‘Our hearts go out to the student’s family, friends, roommates, fellow Learning Community members, the Whitman community, and the faculty and staff who support our first-year students,’ Cantor said in the e-mail.
