Four Syracuse players named to Inside Lacrosse’s Preseason All-America team
The Syracuse lacrosse team, recently voted the No. 2 team in Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook Top 20, placed four players on Inside Lacrosse’s Preseason All-America team.
Sean Young earned either third-team honors while Henry Schoonmaker, Matt Harris and Brandon Mullins were honorable mentions.
Young, a junior defender who was named to the NCAA All-Tournament team in 2013, started 16 games last season and picked up 11 ground balls.
Schoonmaker, a redshirt junior midfielder, scored 18 goals last season, including a four-goal performance in a 13-12 win over Princeton.
Harris, a senior long-stick midfielder, is a co-captain this year and was named to the All-Big East second team a season ago. He led SU with 29 caused turnovers and finished second on the team with 52 ground balls.
Mullins, a redshirt sophomore defender, played in three games last year before suffering a season-ending knee injury against Virginia in March. As a freshman, he recovered 27 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers.
The Orange equaled a program-best 16 wins last season, advancing to the NCAA title game before losing to Duke. Syracuse loses JoJo Marasco, Brian Megill and Luke Cometti, among others, but brings back the aforementioned group of four, as well as Kevin Rice, Dylan Donahue and Hakeem Lecky.
The schedule for Syracuse’s first year in the Atlantic Coast Conference has not yet been released, but practices will start in January.
