Staats sits out Syracuse scrimmages due to ‘paperwork issue’
Onondaga Community College transfer Randy Staats did not dress for Syracuse’s scrimmages against Hofstra and Le Moyne at the Carrier Dome on Saturday due to pending paperwork.
Syracuse beat Hofstra 12-8 in the first scrimmage and Le Moyne 15-4 in the second. Following the victories, SU head coach John Desko addressed Staats’ sidelining.
“You’ll definitely see Staats back next week,” Desko said. “We’re waiting for some paperwork to come in and it actually came in on time, and that was a little frustrating.”
Staats stood next to Syracuse’s bench in a blue Syracuse lacrosse sweatshirt, sweatpants and a mesh baseball cap.
The junior enrolled at Syracuse on Jan. 13, along with fellow junior college transfer Mike Iacono. On Tuesday, Desko said Staats has been impressing his teammates and that the team is still working him at attack and midfield.
