Beat writers offer split predictions for Syracuse-Pitt outcome

Stephen Bailey: Pittsburgh 63, Syracuse 61
Streak stopper
Talib Zanna and Pittsburgh take advantage of SU’s lack of center depth. Assuming Baye Moussa Keita is unable to play, Jerami Grant will have serious trouble holding his own in the middle of the Orange’s 2-3 zone. That, combined with the crowd at the Pete and the craft of Jamie Dixon, will be just enough to end Syracuse’s undefeated start.

David Wilson: Syracuse 57, Pittsburgh 44
Offensive offense
Both teams play ugly, but the top-ranked Orange always makes the plays in the end. The No. 25 Panthers’ best chance is to blow out SU, which they aren’t capable of. Lamar Patterson has fallen back to earth — he’s shot worse than 30 percent in three of his last four games — and Pitt’s best win this season is a narrow loss to Syracuse.

Trevor Hass: Syracuse 60, Pittsburgh 54
Pitt-y the Fools
Rakeem Christmas steps up and keeps Talib Zanna in check as Syracuse passes one of its toughest tests yet. Despite the hostile environment, an injured frontcourt and a strong performance from Lamar Patterson, the Orange pulls out another close win. The Panthers don’t have the personnel to stay with both C.J. Fair and Jerami Grant. If one of them has a rough game, the other one will likely go off.
