Man in critical condition after fall from Euclid Avenue balcony
UPDATED: May 17, 2011, 1:02 p.m.
A Euclid Avenue man was transported by ambulance to Upstate Medical University Hospital on Sunday night after falling from a second-story balcony at about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, said Sgt. Tom Connellan of the Syracuse Police Department.
Zachary Eccles, 20, took a running start to throw a water balloon when he slipped and fell over the railing of the balcony of a house on the 700 block of Euclid near the intersection of Euclid and Lancaster avenues, Connellan said. Connellan could not confirm whether Eccles was a resident of the house.
Syracuse University’s Department of Public Safety did not file a report on this incident because the man was a Le Moyne College student, said Jenn Horvath, public information officer for DPS. Linda Maloney, administrative assistant of Le Moyne’s Department of Security confirmed Eccles had been a registered student at the college in the fall but had been on hiatus since January 24.
Eccles was in the hospital in critical condition with a head injury as of Monday morning, Connellan said. He did not have further updates on Eccles’ condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
