Students robbed in Thorden Park on Thursday morning

A man robbed two students Thursday morning in Thornden Park, displaying what appeared to be a black revolver, according to an e-mail from Department of Public Safety.

The students were walking near the amphitheater at 9:45 a.m. when the man approached and robbed them, according to the e-mail. The suspect took an orange backpack and large green purse.

Neither student was injured during the incident.

DPS officers could not be reached for comment at this time.

DPS is asking for help identifying the suspect. He was last seen fleeing on foot towards the park’s water tower and may have driven away in a newer model blue Chevrolet Impala. He is described in the e-mail as a white male with black hair between the ages of 25 and 33, 5-feet-7-inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing Syracuse sweatpants, a blue hooded Syracuse sweatshirt and a black cloth skull cap.

This is the second armed robbery to occur this semester. The first occurred the evening of Oct. 7 in the 300 block of Comstock Avenue when a man displayed a knife during a property transaction and then fled the scene with the victim’s money.
