Maltz to leave Syracuse, transfer to Maryland
Attack Dylan Maltz will transfer from Syracuse to Maryland, his father, Derek Maltz Sr., confirmed in a text message shortly after 4 p.m. Friday.
Maltz finished up his freshman season with the Orange this past May, and is the brother of now-graduated attack Derek Maltz. Dylan Maltz played in six games off the bench for SU and collected three goals and one assist.
As a highly touted recruit out of Stone Bridge (Va.) Academy, Maltz was the third member of his family to take the field in a Syracuse uniform. Derek Maltz Sr. walked onto the team in the early ’80s and won a national championship — the first in program history — in 1983, and Derek just recently finished a decorated career as an attack.
Dylan was heavily recruited coming out of high school and ended up the sixth-ranked attack in the Class of 2013, and the 18th overall player. He continued the family legacy at SU for one season, but his next collegiate game will be as a Terrapin, one of the Orange’s Atlantic Coast Conference-turned-Big 10 foes.
The Terrapins and Orange met for the only time on Feb. 22 this past season, with UMD winning 16-8. Dylan didn’t see any action in that game.
Derek Maltz congratulated his brother’s transfer in a tweet on Friday:
