Former Syracuse attack Alyssa Murray has accepted a volunteer assistant coaching job at Stony Brook, she confirmed with The Daily Orange on Friday.
After spending the summer looking for assistant coaching positions, she was hired by the Seawolves, a school located just 25 miles from her hometown of West Babylon, New York.
“As with many other young professionals, it was kind of difficult to find a job because of the demand out there,” Murray said.
Murray said last season that she hoped to go into coaching after her Syracuse career ended, and added that she wanted to play somewhere in the southern United States.
Murray led the Orange in scoring both her sophomore and junior seasons and finished her career with 362 points, which ranks second all-time in program history. She was also part of two teams that reached the national championship but came away empty-handed.
She said that since she’s a Long Island, New York, native she’s crossed paths with Stony Brook head coach Joe Spallina in the past. The most recent time was her four-goal, two-assist performance when SU beat the Seawolves 13-6 in the first round of the 2014 NCAA tournament, her fourth-to-last collegiate game.
“I am so excited for what is next for me,” Murray said, “to be a part of the Stony Brook program.”
